Merry Christmas Everyone!

I am heading to Knoxville today - Ho ho ho!

Last night was Taco Night. My wife made sure Lindsay had plenty of beans. Those gas masks from Israel came in quite handy.
Sara was about to wolf down a soft taco.
This morning, the dog decided to "hide out" in the comforter while I washed the linens. Remember - working from home also means "MAID".
Just a few minutes ago, I snapped this pic of the tops of the thunderstorms just moving into Nashville - about 40 miles west of us. Spooky!

First Day of School

Last year, I had no idea which direction this blog was going to take. For some reason, I guess I did not put up the first day of school pictures. I won't make the same mistake this year since our oldest is starting 1st grade and our youngest is starting kindergarten.

It's funny to think that I started kindergarten 30 years ago this year!!

My favorite shot of the morning - I missed my photojournalist calling!
Sara and Lindsay in Lindsay's kindergarten classroom (the same one Sara was in last year!)

Lindsay immediately found the owl puppet

Lindsay began the new Federal Government Play-Doh Assessment Test before we left (All Play-Doh funding is determined by the test)

Sara heads into First Grade - less than 10 years from wanting her own car!

Sara is ready for her fuddy-duddy parents to leave so she can get down to business!!

Randy Pausch

If you have never watched the lecture or did not see him on Oprah, you missed an incredibly moving experience.

Also, I found his lecture on time management to be fantastic. I immediately made changes that have served me quite well.

Gone, far too young, at only 47.

Imagine seeing this in your local paper...

Estelle Getty

Another great from my youth is gone. Growing up with my main claim to fame being in the trombone section, I spent quite a few Saturday nights at the house :-). So, I watched a lot of "The Golden Girls" and I still do. It could get preachy at times, but when it was "in the groove", it was one of the funniest shows on TV (and still is).

All hail Sophia!
Rose: Well, I'm off.
Sophia: Totally.

Rose: Sophia, why are you in such a bad mood?
Sophia: Excuse me Rose, but I haven't had sex in fifteen years and its starting to get on my nerves.

Dorothy: Hi, ma. Where are you going?
Sophia: To the boardwalk. I like to watch the old guys rearrange themselves when they come out of the water.

[Sophia enters kitchen]
Dorothy: You couldn't sleep either, huh?
Sophia: No, I'm sleeping so good I thought I'd come try it in the sink.

Sophia: I can't believe it. Esther Weinstock is dead.
Dorothy: Oh I'm so sorry Ma, How'd it happen?
Sophia: [sarcastically] She was fighting an oil rig fire in the Gulf of Mexico.
[agitated] Sophia: SHE WAS 88!
Rose: Well, it's good that she kept fighting right up to the end.

Blanche: I have writer's block. It's the worst feeling in the world.
Sophia: Try ten days without a bowel movement sometime.

Rose: Here you are, Sophia. The perfect after-dinner treat, a nice dish of Jell-O.
Sophia: I hate Jell-O. If God wanted peaches suspended in midair, he would have filled them with helium.

"Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!!" - definitive proof that Estelle Getty was a great actress. Who else could pull off a comedy with Rocky?

I was that MGR

Free food. Maybe an employee meal? Maybe it was for Conway Twitty? Who knows.

Frosty Shake vs. Frosty Float

I finally made it to Wendy's today. Since I am such a huge fan of the Frosty Float, I had HIGH expectations of the Frosty Shake.

Well, I was let down big time. The flavoring was so overwhelming. I kept thinking - NyQuil Shake - NyQuil Shake.

I couldn't even drink it all. Yeech.

The Frosty Float, however, is a different ballgame. It is my absolute favorite float. I tried the Arby's knockoff - not even close! It reminds me of a soda fountain float (I used to drive to a real soda fountain in Franklin, Kentucky just for real lemonade and floats. Of course, gas was 89 cents a gallon then!).

Long live the Frosty Float!

What some people will do to be blog worthy....

Remember - when you can't find the gloves, Kroger bags work great to keep the "refuse" off your hands.

Our best Canada Day yet!

We decorated the house...
and set out the centerpiece...

and blew up the balloons (thanks!). The flag was waving in all its glory!
Time for beach ball volleyball!

The pool!

And the Canada Day fireworks streaming live via the pc on the TV!
