Happy Halloween!

It's too early for the new pics, so I'll take everyone on a trip down memory lane to Halloween gone by.

Also 2005 - our first John Kerry Halloween!

John Kerry is our Halloween tradition. I got him from a work meeting in 2003 and he only comes out for Halloween. We always take pics with him and sit him outside. He scares everyone to death!!
Pics of 2008 will be posted soon!

I'll have what she's having!

Rob Reiner's mom, Estelle, delivered the most memorable line in my favorite movie, "When Harry Met Sally..." She passed away Saturday at 94. It's hard to believe that the movie is coming up on it's 20th anniversary!! I've watched it many times over the years and though the hair and clothes are a bit dated now (did we really look like that in '89?), the movie is timeless for me.
"I'll have what she's having" - 5 words heard around the world!!!

On the rental car bus...

Heading home!

A day in Ft. Worth

We started out the morning driving to Ft. Worth and trying to avoid all of the traffic coming into town for the Dallas Cowboys game.
First stop - Ft. Worth Water Gardens. A very cool place!

You can walk right down into the fountains. I was not daring enough to do this and I'm not sure my knees would have been forgiving if I had tried!

Rene decided to disrupt the falls! Where would she get such an idea?

Bonnie was next.
I had to join into the civil disobedience!

We saw Prospector Pete in Downtown Ft. Worth.

We made it to the Stock Yards and realized a few thousand other people were also there for
the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering (
This is the restaurant we ate at.

He was disapproving Rene's lunch choice....

...the calf fries. The scientific term is Cow Testicles!!

Bonnie posed with one of the locals.

We saw the Lone Ranger's star on the Texas Trail of Fame.

We saw some authentic Longhorns! Notice that he is hiding his "fries".

At Gravevine Mills, Bonnie defaced some currency for the grandkids! I called the FBI on my cell phone.

Ft. Worth was a great place to go - three thumbs up!!

Saturday in Texas

This morning we roped up some cattle and headed down the trail to Gun Barrel City, TX to see Rene's niece play soccer.

Perfect soccer weather - at least 75 degrees today.

We discovered that Art Garfunkel is refereeing soccer in East Texas.

We ate at the Dairy Queen.

We saw the School Book Depository.

We ended up the evening at a fine restaurant and now we are back. I am going to watch a little more of the embarassment known as UT vs. Alabama and then head to bed!

Dallas - Day One

Here are some pictures from the first day in Dallas. It wasn't really a full day - most of the day was spent packing and flying and trying to get Avis to give me a car that would actually seat four people.

The blue screen of death - at least it wasn't in the air traffic control tower.
Supper at Joe's Crab Shack. My crab cakes were so bad they took them off of the check.
The scenery there was nice!
Check out the visitor from Pensacola Beach!
Bonnie suited up and attacked some crab legs. They got two thumbs up!
Tomorrow will be a full day of work. Friday is always the rough day - installing and upgrading computers and wondering if they will work when we're done! That's why I bring a jumbo container of Maalox tablets!!

Birthday party

One of our kids friends had a birthday party last night. Nothing makes you forget an election like good cupcakes!

We had discussed keeping things simple decoration-wise for the holidays this year. That sounded almost relieving but I started to feel that I shouldn't give up my place as the Clark Griswold of the neighborhood. So, on my last day of vacation, I put out a few decorations. It's a bit toned down from previous years, but for Christmas nothing will be held back.

An afternoon in Gatlinburg

We visited the Ripley's Aquarium and I thin we hiked a little over a mile through town to dinner- where there is a 30 minute wait. I hope it will be worth it!

Go karts!

We satisfied the need for speed. Now I am ready for sleep!
