More confidence, less complaining

I've been thinking this morning about how to make a long-lasting change toward having a more positive attitude. It's easy to make a temporary adjustment and have a good day or a good couple of days. I am wondering how to make a lasting change. I keep recognizing the negativity and the complaining that I seem to constantly come back to. It's like I have a gravitational pull toward frustration more and more as I get older.

I don't have the answer yet but I certainly recognize the problem. I guess that's a step in the right direction.

  1. One of the things I find great for having a positive attitude, or for recognizing happiness, is to keep a gratitude journal. Every day, at the end of the day, I write down three things I was grateful for on that day. Sometimes it's a person, or an event, sometimes it's the weather. It becomes easier and easier to recognize the moments that bring happiness, or at least contentness.

  2. I like it. I keep my five year journal daily but it's just random observations - hot today, mowed the yard, ate like a pig, etc. I have a green journal I bought a couple of months ago that has been sitting around unused and taunting me that would work nicely for this!
