July Write-O-Rama 5: So bloggy

We cruised right through Independence Day with no fires or injuries (that I know of) in the neighborhood and we enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show thanks to the city and our neighbors with young kids without having to spend a dime of our own money except for our taxes which pays for the city fireworks and various other exciting things like garbage pickup.

As I noted on special.fish this morning, I finished reading book 35 for the year so far last night. Each year, I try to read what would be considered a beach read and most years I quit before I barely get into it. This year, I persevered and completed That’s Not a Thing by Jacqueline Friedland. I think I read about this book in a magazine. I gave it four stars on Goodreads because I didn’t have to give up although it’s not really my kind of book. I have no idea what the title has to do with the story. It’s probably in there somewhere and I missed the connection. The characters and their decisions are frustrating. It’s interesting how young people are still portrayed as living life like soap operas when soap operas are barely a thing these days. Of course, maybe this is the natural way some people’s lives gravitate towards and that explains why soap operas were once a thing to begin with before we all got distracted by being connected all the time and having too many choices in entertainment.

I want to be distracted for a few weeks by this writing project and a few other things so I’ve decided not to actively look for a book for a bit. I’ve been reading pretty much constantly all year and last year and the year before that, etc. so now I want to focus a bit of my free time on doing a whole lot of nothing. I want to watch some bad television and maybe play a video game or two and write here, of course.

Plus, marching band is firing back up and that will be taking up some of my time soon if the season really happens. We’re planning it like it is going to happen but there are many doubts about even school starting on time plus the football season has already been postponed which I don’t mind because the postponement covers what is usually the hottest weeks of the season.

Speaking of hot, it is HOT again today. Too hot. And I am dragging. I did a lot of stuff over the last week culminating with mowing yesterday when the heat index was 97 degrees and I’m still trying to recover from that. My allergies have fired up so I took a Benadryl – just one – and it has just about knocked me out also.

OK – let’s finish up for today. I have continued to play with micro.blog and I have finally figured out a few things that makes it a bit more usable than I thought it was yesterday so I’m going to keep using it for a bit. I like the community that is there and the ability we have for easy interaction unlike special.fish. But there is also something to be said for the independence that special.fish keeps in place so I will keep using that also for now. I have been discovering some blogs and podcasts on micro.blog and that makes me happy. I’ll stick with it and keep reporting back.

Lastly, I have a couple of ideas for not-about-me topics for the Write-O-Rama so prepare yourself for that happening some time over the next week!
